August 4, 2026 In 2026, Hong Kong
Day 37: to Hong Kong 16th and 17th July

We had to check out by 10 but were able to leave our bags at a place also run by the same apartments and it was only a short walk away.

We had a further wander around Prague, had coffee at a nice courtyard cafe and then did some sight seeing in a part of the city centre we hadn’t seen, including the city hall.

Great brunch
And cabinet food
Opposite the bag place was the cubism museum. We just went into the foyer.
Looking up the stairwell. Clever!
Town hall place and/or theatre
Everything was grand inside
Quite like Florence

I happened upon a shop that sold accessories and couldn’t resist a new hat.

We had a glass of wine at a courtyard wine bar. Kind of strangely decorated with funny palace-type plastic seats and swinging bamboo seats but it had a nice garden also.

After some more wandering we had lunch at a cafe within this square. I had an excellent bean salad with sausages. Not at all what I expected as they were green beans but it was yum.

The taxi to the airport was all good and we got checked in after an extremely terse exchange with an unnecessarily rude Lufthansa representative. Then Jen headed off for her Turkish airline flight to Hong Kong via Istanbul. We were flying via Frankfurt. Wrong!  Next minute (while waiting at the gate) we get an email saying our flight has been cancelled due to thunderstorms. Everywhere we looked it was sunny but apparently there were thunderstorms somewhere.

Eventually we got an announcement at the gate but no help. We found the transfer desks but they had about 100 people and weren’t moving. We then got an email confirmation that we were now going on Finnair to Helsinki then Hong Kong. The link wouldn’t let us check in so we rocked up to the gate and fortunately got an efficient young woman who sorted out boarding passes and got us luggage tags. (The Lufthansa bitch hadn’t given us any instructions about bag tags so we had nothing!).

The Finnair flight was fine. We got fed and they didn’t crash. We had very little time in Helsinki so crossed our fingers that our bags would go with us and had a pretty good flight to Hong Kong. The bags were nearly the last to come out but they did arrive!  We arrived not long after Jen so it was very convenient in the end.

We taxied to the Kowloon Harbourfront Hotel, which is well situated and not too expensive. We had a 2 room apartment on the 17th floor with a good view which was perfectly comfortable.

Everywhere you look its skyscrapers
Our hotel
The view from the lounge
View from bedroom (same view. No boat)

The bar wasn’t open so we wandered along the promenade to the hotel next door which has a bar on top of the 7th floor and was a great location for admiring the city at night.

You get weeds with everything these days!

We got a lot of attention from a bloke at a neighbouring table and had numerous photos with him. He’s apparently part of his company’s trade delegation to Taiwan and Hong Kong (according to google translate) and the waiter thought they were from northern China. They shooed him away eventually. I think we were probably the first Europeans he’s ever seen in person.

Jen’s face says it all really!
