Thursday/Friday 3-4 July: travel

We had sourced a place nearby where we could leave our luggage for a fee. Our check out was 11am but the train to the airport did not leave until 4pm. We decided that another few hours in the air conditioning of the Fine Arts Museum (which is still free due to the heat wave) to get us a quiet cafe and a further opportunity for cultural improvement.

The luggage place was in a tattoo parlour just around the corner and was very vibrant.

Barb uses Apple Maps instead of Google maps so she followed her own scenic route and saw more of old Lyon 😂

There are some lovely impressionist paintings in the Museum and a lot of Rodin sculptures. It’s a great gallery to visit.

Monet’s Printemps. Mike and Barbara’s favourite
Pissarro – Kew Gardens. My favourite
Millet – Un Officier de Marine: Another of my favourites
Everyone loves a Renoir
Rodin’s The Kiss

We were slightly concerned about getting to the train station on time as the uber took longer to arrive than expected and the traffic was horrendous, but the train was delayed slightly and it was very easy to find the right platform. We had an uneventful 2 hour trip to the airport at Paris. Then a little concern that the check in machines weren’t accepting our passports, and Mike’s flights aren’t showing at all in his Air NZ app, but we were processed fine and waited in a reasonable restaurant place. We were on a Singapore Airlines code share flight in premium economy seats so no access to the star alliance lounge.

The flight over to Singapore was good. Mike and I both slept pretty well and it is not too long a flight. Unfortunately there was a thunderstorm just as we arrived so we had to circle with other planes for about 40 minutes which wasn’t ideal.

We had a slight miscommunication with the Grab ride share pick up, so ended up having to find our ride in a different location but otherwise got ourselves to Craig and JenY’s place just after 7.30 pm. It was great to see them.

Barb is staying at a hotel in walking distance away but she got a Grab to her hotel as it had been raining and was dark. Good to be here.
