June 14, 2025 In 2025, Spain
Thursday 12 June: Granada.

We had a walk through the city to find a breakfast place. Barbara tried to lose us but eventually we found a suitable spot. We chose the bio breakfast which was essentially fruit with muesli and yoghurt and looked and tasted great.

Isn’t that pretty. Kiwifruit are on menus everywhere.

We successfully got ourselves to the correct train station and onto the correct train. You have to go through security and the several hundred people trying to get to trains were getting quite anxious, especially as there was no platform number for Granada until about 15 minutes before departure.

Our train.

We found our seats fine and settled in. There was quite a bit of horticulture along the way and some of the land formations were dramatic.

People’s allotments just outside Cordoba (which was on the way).

Unfortunately my throat was getting worse so I slept for most of the trip. Unlike Carvoeiro, it was hot in Seville and hotter in Granada.

We had to wait ages for an uber and so cancelled and took a taxi. Turns out it was a third of the price estimated by uber.

Our building and front door.
Inside the front courtyard.

Our host let us in and gave some good recommendations for restaurants and places to see. The apartment is a 2 bedroom place in an old building but has 3 heat pumps and is well equipped. it’s also close to the centre and has views of Alhambra out the window – which Barb can see from her bed.

I decided I really needed to see a doctor and get some antibiotics. Mike found an online outfit where you can get a video consultation. Within half an hour I was talking to a Spanish doctor who was very efficient and prescribed some amoxicillin and more paracetamol. The prescription came into my inbox and I was able to collect from a pharmacy just around the corner from the historic centre, which is just around the corner from our accommodation. The doctor cost €30 and the prescription €6.70 so about the same as home. I had one of the antibiotics immediately.

Our building is on the left. I think the window on the right above the orange part is our room.

We had booked a flamenco show for 7.15. It wasn’t t far from where we are staying and was well patronised, mainly by Spanish tourists.

On our way down the street.
I think this might be the local government building. It’s in one of the main squares and is very imposing.
The guitarist was great but the experience was a bit loud and random for us. You don’t seem to have to clap in time. We’ve ticked it off the bucket list.

We found our way to a popular tapas bar that our host had recommended. It was excellent. We ordered a ham and cheese tapas platter and a seafood one. Both were excellent.

We are well and truly in the holiday vibe.
