Sunday 6th July: Singapore

Today we went to Gardens by the Bay. They are a series of gardens beside Marina Bay Sands and we had tickets for the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome which are the 2 wave shaped glass houses. Both air conditioned, thankfully. There are other parts outside, but they are outside!

The theme in the flower dome at the moment is “English Rose” and it really is very beautiful.

This is part of a larger display with lots of people posing in every way possible.

An English picnic tea, complete with baguettes and what looked like a pomegranate.
It really was very well done.
There are loads of these wooden sculptures in other parts of the Flower Dome also.

The theme in the Cloud Forest was Jurassic Park. It was extremely well done. Very lifelike animation (not that I was around and can verify the likeness. Very like the movie version anyway.

The New Zealand garden had no obvious added dinosaurs.
This guy had sound effects and animation. There were electric fences and signs not to harass the animals!
There are walkways that spiral down through the Cloud Forest. You get elevators to the top.

After the Cloud Forest we went to a hawker market for lunch. It’s in the grounds of the gardens. It was a bit of a hot walk but we encountered different otters crossing the path from the sea to swim in the lakes beside the gardens.

We might have overdone the ordering.
This, believe it or not is carrot cake Singapore style. It’s nothing like either carrots or cake but is delicious.

On our return we had a relaxing evening playing cards. We were too full to eat but did manage to share a bottle of the Pinot Noir from burgundy.
