June 10, 2025 In 2025, Portugal
Monday 9 June: Carvoeiro

We didn’t have the best night as Mike had a coughing fit at about 3am and took himself off to the other bedroom. He eventually got back to sleep however and had a good sleep in.

We had breakfast at the resort. It was a very nice buffet with everything you’d want/need.

Barb had some emails to sort out so Mike and I set off for the town to find a supermarket. We need washing powder for the machine. I must remember to put in a plastic bag of washing powder next time I come away.

The walk along and down to Carvoeiro was not far. About 2km and as today is overcast and much cooler, it was quite pleasant.

There are these random decking areas every couple of hundred metres along the road so you can have a rest.
Carvoeiro has its own beach. Not sure if you have to pay. It’s a nice little town but we are glad we are staying a little bit further out. It’s lovely and quiet.
The main shopping street
We passed this cove on the way up the hill to the supermarket. There is a restaurant beside our viewpoint which has a commanding view. It would be a mission getting your stuff and kids back up the path on a hot day!

We found a Spar supermarket up the hill from the town and got the washing powder and some water and then had a mooch along the shops. Mike almost bought another cap, this time made of cork, but in the end decided the 5 caps was probably enough.

There are some lovely villas. Now that is what I call a retaining wall.
Very pretty flowers that I can’t remember the name of.
And oleanders
We passed way too many signs for this place. Michael won’t be getting that kind of glamour on this trip!

On our return we decided we’d earned a snack of toasted sandwiches (which we shared) and red sangria (which we also shared). After a ‘discussion’ about whether it mattered that Mike was not tipping (he maintains it makes no difference – maybe he exists in a parallel Scottish/Kiwi reality) it was agreed that I’d deal with the bill. I paid with very slightly more than a 10% tip and said that I didn’t think my husband had been tipping (for drinks yesterday, for dinner, or breakfast) and our man laughed, said thanks very much and had a much happier demeanour. I,m hoping dinner tonight will be just as good 😂. It was.
