July 25, 2023 In England, St Ives
Day 32: July 22nd

Well we got the full British summer experience today. Unfortunately the excellent views out to sea from the dining room were wasted. However the breakfast is excellent with lots of variety and a great cooked meal selection.
We decided to walk down to the town and donned raincoats and borrowed an umbrella from the hotel. It was a damp experience. We, and everyone else in St Ives had the same idea as there were no takers for the beach.
We wandered the shops in the pouring rain and then found a tea room where we had coffees and Mike consumed a steak pastie, that seemed to be mainly potato from my observation and sample taste!
There is not that much to say about St Ives on a rainy day.

Fortunately we’d taken a photo of the Harbour Hotel from the deck when we arrived.
Looking down towards the marina.
If it wasn’t such an effort to take off wet coats I’d have been tempted to try this place out!

This is also a road!
First day of school holidays and it’s raining
At least the pastie came with a salad and not these weeds that seem to be obligatory here. Every meal comes with them. Some sort of pea shoots. They just look like limp weeds to me.
St Ives has orange begonias everywhere. These are on the wall outside the public toilets. NZ has a lot to learn about decorating it’s streets and public buildings to make them appealing.
We walked back along the beach as there is a path up to the hotel across from the train station. Yes there is a train that goes to a couple of different beach places along the coast and ends at St Ives.
Our hotel is up the hill behind the trees on the right.
What can I say. It was damp.
