June 24, 2023 In 2023, England, Nottingham
Day 3: 23 June

We met up with Steve and Fiona after a reasonably good sleep and feeling pretty ok. We ducked breakfast in favour of a coffee and snack on our walk into town. Their apartment looks north from the balcony towards the city centre and south from the kitchen over the canal towards Trent Bridge (sort of). The city is flat around them but undulates gently throughout the city centre. Its remarkably pretty with lots of trees but also some major construction in places.

Looking up their road (Canal Street) from the balcony

We walked down Canal Street to see the railway station which is a beautifully decorative building, crossing the canal on the way.

Steve and Fiona’s kitchen looks out over this canal. Their apartment is part of the complex on the left.

We stopped at the Costa Coffee before I got my nails done. There was only one size flat white so I chose the large latte.

The others left me to the nail lady and went off to cruise the shops.

Then we wandered along the town to the cafe area where we selected an excellent Indian restaurant for lunch. Sitting on the swing seats was a bit odd (literally wooden seats on ropes from the ceiling and anchored to the floor with loosish chains). The food came in tiffin boxes and was yum.
Fiona and I had some quality time getting tops and shorts for me in Jigsaw at their sale and then in Marks and Sparks.
To round off the day we drove to Trent Lock for a picnic (ie cheese and crackers, crisps, olives and French plonk). It was fun to sit beside the canal in the late afternoon and chill.

Unfortunately the weather didn’t entirely play the game so we actually did chill and were glad to have our jackets and jerseys.
It was another early night for us and we didn’t bother with dinner.
