July 15, 2023 In 2023, Cardiff, Wales
Day 24: July 14th.

We have managed to book an emergency dental appointment in Cardiff for Mike this afternoon which is a relief as his tooth is very bad. Fortunately the Panadol seems to work well.
We had another nice breakfast in Tenby (muesli followed by poached eggs) then headed off for our 2.5 hour drive to Cardiff.
This had to be some of the worst weather I’ve ever driven through. Torrential rain most of the way and gale force winds much of the time. Trying to navigate through all the roundabouts and on and off different roads and motorways was a nightmare, particularly as Mike was feeling pretty awful.
We stopped off at a seaside town to get a coffee and have a break just as the weather took a turn for the worse. I was literally blown into the next door car when I tried to get out!
We found a park behind some shops in Porthcawl. It might be a cute place on a nice day but it was truly bleak today.

The camera is very very generous here. You don’t notice the driving rain.

The only shop we could find that sold coffee was this ice cream parlour that also had a limited range of non ice cream related foods. All of the patrons seemed to be having lunches of toasted sandwiches that came with a nice salad. We just had coffees and they were really very good. The following was one of the illustrated menu items. I hope it never takes off in NZ.

Seriously! (No calorie information supplied).

We got to Cardiff successfully and navigated to the dentist which is in a huge mall complex in the centre of the city. The dentist surgery focuses on cosmetic surgery and is part of the Boots store but the dentist was a real dentist and he was able to get in behind the tooth and clean out the abscess ok.
We are staying at the Radisson Blu which is only a few hundred metres away from the shopping mall. We eventually navigated there ok although that was stressful as google maps got confused in the car park and couldn’t sort out the route properly.
We have a spacious room which has everything we need. Typical hotel but room for all our stuff without having to climb over anything Tonight we ate here as Mike just needs the antibiotics to work.
Tomorrow we will try a city tour and maybe just check out the shops. No driving tomorrow.
My injuries are improving but I still look a sight and my nose is quite swollen.

That’s actually the best photo I can do also 🤪
