Mother’s Day in Argentina. My children did not get the memo!
We slept late and almost missed breakfast which goes from 7.30-10.30 (it’s included with the room).
It was not so warm. We did some hand washing and could peg it out on the chairs on the terrace.
I tried option 1of the 3 breakfast options. Not so good. The croissants are not croissants at all. They are just shaped the same. Really they are glazed buns and for someone whose constitution has difficulty with bread, not an ideal starting food. I focussed on the coffee, toast (with runny cheese spread and jam) and thin slices of ham and cheese. Odd but tasty enough. Mike had option 2 which was fruit salad with toasted cheese and ham sandwich, coffee and yoghurt.
We joined the bus at the Palermo Soho stop and had no trouble finding our way there. It was noticeably colder on the top deck and we were glad of our puffer jackets and jerseys. I was feeling a lot better so was more alert and took more photos.
Very many people seem to have dogs here. They are everywhere out in the many parks. Almost all are on leads and there are lots of people who are obviously professional dog walkers with 6 or 7 dogs on leads. Mostly people seem to have plastic bags and pick up after their dogs, which is good to see. There are also lots and lots of parks which is essential for any quality of life when most of the population lives in apartments.
This time we got off in Caminito and had a look around. We went into a cafe and had an empanada (Argentinian version of a Cornish pastie ) which was very nice, and a cup of coffee, also good. Empanadas come in different flavours- this place had chicken, beef and ham and cheese. I had beef and Mike had ham and cheese and we were both happy. Each flavour has a specific shape so you don’t get confused!
Then back on the bus and over to the port area. We got off at one end of the port and walked the 2 km length along the dockside amongst these ultra modern buildings and then stopped for wine and antipasto at a cafe. (I might say that even though it was only one stop later, it was nearly 2 hours since we’d previously eaten and was nearly 5pm when we had our first glass of wine.). They only sold wine by the bottle but assured us they were only small bottles ( they were exactly normal 750ml bottles) but the rose was was delicious as was the mozzarella, cheese and meats antipasto. We spent an hour people watching then rejoined the bus at the closest stop and continued on the route to Palermo where we disembarked and walked back. This time we bought empanadas from the cafe below, which they heated for us and cost about $3 for the 2. Delicious with a glass of our own Malbec. Mike watched the England Australia game on his IPad and I wrote some blog. Another great day.
