The hotel and staff are great. The man at reception is American and very helpful. He sowed the seed that our tango experience might not be the best so Jen did some googling and found he was right. He has booked us into one of the best shows which is set in a cafe. They pick you up from the hotel and the show includes food and a free bar. Jen was able to rebook our original tango lesson and show for Sunday night and we will just leave the show a bit early and go straight to the airport after.
It seems like the hotel is the ‘Be’ chain as this district is Hollywood. The man at the front recommended a place for dinner last night which is just around the block. When we turned up we gave one of his cards and got a glass of bubbles each with ice in the glass. We arrived at about 9pm and the place was about half full. It filled up more or less continuously until we left at 11pm. They found a waitress that spoke English and she helped us order. We had salad with steaks and a bottle of good Malbec. The wine is cheap here. About $30NZ for a very good bottle in a restaurant.
We walked back the other way down the block and passed a bar called Negroni.
We culdn’t resist so had a house negroni classic each and very good they were. They have a 2 hour happy hour beginning at 10pom!
Then we tried to get money from an ATM but they have security doors that are locked at night and you need a swipe card so no luck with that.
Got back to our hotel at midnight and had an ok sleep.
There is a continual flushing sound that happens every minute or so. Not sure what it is but you get used to it. The shower is good but very long and narrow. There is a glass sliding door. All very clean but you can’t exactly spread out!
Breakfast was interesting also. There are cereals and fruit and fruit salad + toast and croissants. Apricot and raspberry jam but no butter. The bread tastes a bit odd. Sort of sweet. They also do eggs. Just eggs, nothing else. Jen ordered a poached egg and that’s what she got. A single poached egg in a wee bowl, but she reckoned the egg tasted funny also. We will sort out what’s best to eat tomorrow perhaps. Maybe try omelette.
